A historic meeting of representatives of the police and border guard authorities of Lithuania, Latvia, Estonia and Moldova in Vilnius, Lithuania
On 11-12 July 2023 a meeting of representatives of the police and border guard authorities of Lithuania, Latvia, Estonia and Moldova was organized in Vilnius, Lithuania, on the initiative of the Lithuanian Police Commissioner General Renatas Požėla.
The meeting became historic for two reasons – firstly, it was organized in the context of the NATO summit in order to share invaluable experience in organizing large-scale events and ensuring public order and security during them with the foreign counterparts.
In addition, during the meeting, the representatives of the police and border guard authorities of Lithuania, Latvia, Estonia and Moldova signed a joint declaration aimed at strengthening cooperation in the field of fighting crime and participating more actively in providing support and assistance to the National Police and the State Border Guard Service of Ukraine.
After signing the declaration, the humanitarian aid provided by the Lithuanian Police was handed over to the Police of Ukraine and Moldova. Both authorities received new “Mercedes-Benz Vito” minibuses, while the National Police of Ukraine additionally received a demining platform. When handing over the aid, R. Požėla said: “We would like to assure our brothers and sisters in Ukraine and Moldova that we have repeatedly helped them in this difficult time and we will certainly continue our support further on. It cannot be otherwise. I invite you all to do the same.”
Foreign delegations, accompanied by their Lithuanian colleagues also visited the site of the Medininkai massacre, where they laid flowers at the Medininkai memorial to honour the memory of the fallen Lithuanian officers.
